Teruah (pronounced t-ROO-uh), teruah is a tekiah blast divided into nine rapid-fire notes. The teruah sound resembles an alarm clock and is intended to awaken us from any spiritual sleep and slumber. The shofar is meant to bring us into a place of spiritual clarity and divine focus. During the appointed time of the Fall Holidays which includes the Hebrew month of Elul, Rosh Hashanah, the Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur-the Day of Atonement we need to wake up and be honest and objective about our walk of faith and how much we’ve progressed throughout the past year. During these forty days the Holy Spirit will help us renew our spiritual strength and the spirit of our mind. It’s considered advanced preparation for the outpouring of reward and blessing that follows on Sukkot-the Feast of Tabernacles.

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy. Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT
